ONDO COMMISSIONER RALLIES SUPPORTS FOR GOVERNMENT PROGRAMMES, URGES TEACHERS TO SUPPORT GOVERNOR LUCKY AIYEDATIWA

  The Ondo State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire has solicited the cooperation of principals of public secondary schools across the state towards achieving the needed transformation of the education sector by the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's administration. At a meeting with principals of all public secondary schools in Akure, the Commissioner urged them to unambiguously carry out a thorough implementation of government programmes and polices in their respective schools to advance the frontier of education in the state. He reminded them that Ondo State Government still operates tuition free education policy for public primary and secondary schools in state and cautioned against putting additional burden on parents through  unapproved levies by government. ONDO to establish State Senior Secondary Education Board; targets infrastructural development in senior secondary schools*

  The Ondo State government has expressed its readiness to key into the programmes and policies of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission, NSSEC, to build and upgrade infrastructural facilities in Senior Secondary Schools across the state. The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire, made the commitment while playing host to the Executive Secretary of the commission, Dr. Iyela Ajayi during a courtesy call on him in his office. The National Senior Secondary Education Commission, NSSEC, is saddled with the mandate to prescribe the national minimum standard for education and intervene in Senior Secondary Education through provision of infrastructural facilities.   The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, has held its 2024 edition of National Quiz Competition for secondary schools in Ondo State. The quiz competition which focused on the Legislature, democracy and governance, was aimed at providing continued education on the legislature and broaden the knowledge of students and youths on democratic governance in Nigeria. Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire, in his speech at the occasion lauded the organizer, the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, an organ of the National Assembly, for initiating the programme. Rainfall causes flash flooding in Ondo communities, Government sympathizes with Osemawe*

  The rainfall that lasted for hours yesterday in some parts of the state has reportedly caused flash flooding, especially in some communities in Ondo City, the headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Areas. According to reports, the flood affected property worth several millions of Naira and over flooded major roads, causing gridlock of vehicles for several hours. It took the interventions of some security agents to rescue some children from being swept away by the flood at Itan'la (Ile-Oluji) junction, Ondo. Reacting to the incident, Commissioner for Environment, Mr Oyeniyi Oseni, expressed the sympathy of the Ondo State Government to the Osemawe of Ondo and the people of the entire community. He said the state government was aware of the prediction of possible flood in some communities in the state by NIMET and has put necessary machinery in place to avert it.
