ONDO COMMISSIONER RALLIES SUPPORTS FOR GOVERNMENT PROGRAMMES, URGES TEACHERS TO SUPPORT GOVERNOR LUCKY AIYEDATIWA

The Ondo State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire has solicited the cooperation of principals of public secondary schools across the state towards achieving the needed transformation of the education sector by the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's administration.

At a meeting with principals of all public secondary schools in Akure, the Commissioner urged them to unambiguously carry out a thorough implementation of government programmes and polices in their respective schools to advance the frontier of education in the state.

He reminded them that Ondo State Government still operates tuition free education policy for public primary and secondary schools in state and cautioned against putting additional burden on parents through  unapproved levies by government.

Mr Akindolire also urged the school principals to collaborate with the Alumna Associations and Parents/Teachers Association of their respective schools, as well as seek the intervention of philanthropists to attract infrastructural development to their schools, stating that government cannot do it alone.

The Commissioner, however used the occasion to re-emphasized the state government's zero tolerance to examination malpractice, saying the standard of education in the state would never be compromised.

He warned that government would not hesitate to sanction erring school head or supervisor found culpable of examination malpractices, reminding them that the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has some sets of rules on examination malpractices and would not hesitate to apply them on erring officials either in private or public schools.

The education Commissioner warned that any principal or official of equivalent rank, who is retiring or being posted out of his or her current duty post must follow the civil service rules by handling over properly to his or her successor, this he said would enhance accountability and continuity of programmes in the school.

He therefore solicited the support of the school heads in ensuring a resounding victory  for Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in forthcoming November pollin the, stressing that to whom much is given, much is also required.

According to him, some of the remarkable achievements of the Governor in the education sector include Teachers Elongation Scheme, appointment of Tutor Generals, recruitment of teachers, regular promotion of staff and payment of salaries and allowances as well as the recent approval of seventy-three percent minimum wage for workers in the state.

Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr (Mrs) Olawumi Ilawole, assure the school administrators that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa would prioritize their needs and look passionately into their demands.

Some of the principals who responded at the occasion pledged their supports for the election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa come November 16th, particularly emphasizing the on-going recruitment of teachers and the approved renovation and reconstruction of infrastructure in public schools scheduled to commence soon across the state.

They also cited the plan by the state government to establish the State Secondary School Education Board, in line with the directive of the National Secondary School Education Commission, NSSEC to address infrastructural deficits in senior secondary schools in the state.

They however appealed to the state Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to increase the current number of Tutor Generals in the state from three to nine, to give more opportunities to others.
