END-BAD-GOVERNANCE PROTEST; AIYEDATIWA'S AIDE, OLAMIDE FALANA URGES WOMEN TO CAUTION THEIR WARDS*
The Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Gender Matters, Chief (Mrs.) Olamide Falana has called on women to caution their wards against joining the planned End-Bad-Governance protest, pleading with Nigerian youths to seek alternative means of pressing home their demands.
Speaking with newsmen in Akure, Chief Falana, a staunch advocate of policy changes and initiatives that positively affect youths and gender, said it was highly necessary to respond to the planned hunger protest because it is capable of crippling the nation's economy and bring the country to its kneels.
She said similar protests in the past have led to looting of goods as well as wanton destruction of both public and personal property, leaving tales of woes and creating wounds that took decades to heal.
She said, although it is a right of the citizens to protest against any form of policy they are not comfortable with, however, there is the need to exercise caution as the good intent of the organizer might be hijacked by some disgruntled elements to settle some political scores.
In such chaotic or violent situation, according to her, women and youths are always at the receiving ends, hence the need for mothers to caution their children and wards against taking part in violent protests.
"Based on precedents, It is crucial to note that women and youths are at higher risk and tend to suffer most should an outbreak of violence occur; We must therefore refuse to allow our wards run into danger as safety during such demonstrations cannot be predicted".
The Special Adviser said it was particularly poignant to recall the volume of lives and property lost to the #ENDSARS# protest as some individuals are still recounting their loses.
Chief Falana stated that President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu was working hard to make life better for Nigerians especially through the reforms in the petroleum sector, approval of loan students, massive infrastructural development, distribution of food palliatives, agricultural input for farmers and financial grants to assist small businesses.
"What Nigerians need now is to get a better understanding of the various reforms and restructuring programmed of the Federal Government and this can only be achieved through a round-table engagements, not protests.
"We are aware of the present economic situation in the country, nevertheless, it is best to engage the government in more constructive ways that would lead to better resolutions for the yet to be met needs".
