ONDO COMMISSIONER SUES FOR SYNERGY AMONG PLAYERS IN THE EDUCATION SECTOR, SAYS GOVT. READY TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF MSTP PROGRAMME*

The Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire says government establishments in the education sector of the state must harmonize all the assisted programmes for effective coordination and benefit of students.

The Commissioner maintained that agencies and parastatals in the education sector of the state should involve  the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in all assisted programmes to avoid duplication and overlap.

While hosting the officials of ACCENT Entrepreneur Development Initiative and School-To-work Scheme of SUBEB in his office, Mr. Akindolire said there should be a seamless cooperation among all players in the education sector since all are working towards the same goal of providing all-round education for the young ones.

He particularly charged the State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, to always harmonize any of it programmes that has to do with Junior Secondary School, JSS1-3 with that of the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as both players are working towards achieving the same mandate.

Mr. Akindolire assured that the state government was ready to assume ownership of any assisted education pilot programme in the state, particularly the vocational skill acquisition programme, tagged Multi Skills Teen-preneurship Programme, MSTP), for secondary schools in the state to address critical needs within the education sector.

The programme, in partnership with an Indian based organization, LEND-A-HAND-INDIA (LAHI), was facilitated by Accent Entrepreneurship Development Initiative and Spring Board Nigeria to equip secondary school students with multiple entrepreneurial skills for greater employability opportunity.

It was launched by the Ondo State Government last year with its pilot programme currently operating in nine secondary schools across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.

The State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, is also evolving a similar programme under the School -To-Work Scheme, STWS,  in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, and the pilot project is scheduled to take off soon in almost the same schools

The Commissioner said the two schemes can be harmonized to avoid duplication and overlapping, and for a smooth take off since there was an already established structure in the schools.

He said the pilot project of the MSTP programme has been appraised in all the nine selected secondary schools across the state and the impact has been fantastic, while the zeal and enthusiasm of students were unequalled, adding that the intent of government was to assume ownership and extend it to other schools.

The facilitator of the programme and Chief Executive Officer of Multi Skill Teen-preneurship Programme, Mr. Wale Akinyanmi said "Lend-A-Hand India" LAHI, had made much impacts in vocational skills development in India and has decided to extend the Programme to Africa, starting from Nigeria and chosing Ondo State as the take-off point for the pilot project.

He said the Multi Skill Foundation,  has brought a new dawn in Africa, most importantly, in Ondo State by bringing the Indian Technical Know-How for the development of the state through the Multi-Skill Teenpreneurship Programme, as LAHI has not only brought the tools/equipment but also brought their Technicians to train Instructors on how to use them appropriately, and expressed happiness that the state government is ready to assume ownership.

The Director of Social Mobilization,  State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB,  Mrs. Fajana Adewumi, who also is the Desk Officer of School -To-Work Scheme, said the board was ready to collaborate with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and carry it along in its Programmes since their intent remains the same..
