Commissioner for Education tasks school Principals on effective implementation of government policies

The Ondo State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire has tasked principals of public secondary schools across the state on effective and successful implementation of government policies in the education sector.

At a meeting in Akure with principals of all public secondary schools in the state, the Commissioner described the school administrators as professionals saddled with the mandate to ensure effective implementation of government programmes and polices at the grassroots.

He reminded them that Ondo State still operates free education programme, explaining that the collectibles approved by government only cover levies like PTA, computer, sports, medical, entrepreneur, utility among others and has nothing to do with tuition.

He tasked the school heads not to charge students any additional levy outside the ones approved by government as collectibles during on-going 2024/2025 admission process, stressing that any school that collects more than the approved levies would be sanctioned appropriately.

The Commissioner also told the principals that government seriously frowns at collection of money for uniform, locker or textbooks by any school, adding that anyone caught indulging in such act would incur the wrath of government.

"No school authority is authorized to sell textbooks, customized notebooks, locker or school uniform to parents or compell them to buy from certain vendors. They are to provide parents with the samples or list of books and allow them to get those things from whatever source they can them. Any that school contravene this directive and there is proof of evidence against it, will face the music"

He maintained that the state government is working hard to provide quality and affordable education for the people of the state and would not tolerate any attempt to impose additional burden on parents, especially in the face of the present economic reality.

Mr Akindolire therefore tasked the school administrators on mentoring their students through excellent leadership qualities by being punctual at their duty posts and leaving behind unblemish records in their places of assignments.

He also hinted that the on-going recruitment of teachers into public schools would further fortify the system and ensure that students in the state get nothing less than the best.
