ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT TO ESTABLISH FUND TO DRIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN SCHOOLS.

The Ondo State Government says it would establish special fund to promote and develop entrepreneurship education and skills acquisition in its public schools across the state.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire stated this in Akure while declaring open the 2024 Stakeholders workshop on Entrepreneurship education in Ondo State.

The Commissioner stated that the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was irrevocably committed to promoting functional education and entrepreneurship growth with a view to encourage innovative ideas and skills acquisition in teaching and learning in primary and secondary schools.

He added that the state government was quite conscious of the fact that the state can only attain a desirable development through innovation, entrepreneurship and skill acquisition,  hence the need to establish the special fund for entrepreneurship and skills development.

Mr. Akindolire explained that the special fund would be used to drive entrepreneurship, innovations and skill acquisition in school across the state with the aim to ensure that every school leaver is equipped with at least one skill that could make him or her self-sustaining.

*"Education is beyond competition. It is more about introducing our students to an entrepreneurial way of life from their early stages so that they can become job creators, gain financial independence as they grow up. And they will eventually become assets to their communities and the state.*

The Commissioner described entrepreneurship as more than just carrer path, but a way of life and mindset that empower individuals to identify opportunities, solve problems and create value, adding that by fostering a culture of entrepreneurship in schools, the state could inspire the next generation of innovators, job creators and social change agents.

*"In today's rapidly changing world, where innovation and creativity are the driving forces of progress, we must equip our young people with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed as entrepreneurs, hence the need for a special fund to drive to innovation"*

The Commissioner therefore appealed to non-governmental organizations, philanthropists and Old Students Associations to support the state government by contributing towards the development of education in the state through sponsoring education programmes that would further promote technological advancement and development of entrepreneurial skills in the state and the nation.

The facilitator of the programme, Pastor Wale Akinyanmi, said the intent of the workshop was to develop a comprehensive framework for entrepreneurship education in the state and train teachers to effectively deliver entrepreneurship programmes.

He added that the programme would also work out collaboration with the private sector and non-governmental organizations to run the programmes as well as provide mentorship and internship opportunities for the students by creating supportive ecosystem for young entrepreneurs.

The workshop was co-facilitated by the Forum of Entrepreneurship Consultants in Ondo State and attended by stakeholders in the education sector, entrepreneurs and leaders of industries across the state.
