Gov. Aiyedatiwa Declares NBA Law Week Open, Calls for Revival of Professional Ethics*

 



The Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa has challenged legal practitioners in Nigeria to confront the ethical challenges plaguing the profession and work towards restoring public trust in the legal system.


The Governor, while declaring open the 2025 annual Law Week of the Ondo City Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), on Tuesday, described legal practitioners as Ministers in the temple of Justice and tasked them on protecting the rights of citizens, ensuring accountability, and upholding the rule of law.


Represented by the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Ondo state, Dr Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, the Governor called on the legal practitioners to reignite their commitment to ethical standards in the administration of Justice to repose the well-founded confidence of the people.


He described the Legal Week as more than just a gathering, but also a reaffirmation of his administration's commitment to justice, integrity, and the rule of law in the state as it brings legal practitioners together to discuss current legal trends and challenges in the profession.


Speaking on the theme, “Dying Ember of Professional Ethics: The Blunted Sword of the Gatekeeper”, the Governor challenged legal practitioners to confront the ethical challenges plaguing the profession and work to restore public trust in the legal system.


Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasised that the legal profession thrives on trust, and urged lawyers to uphold the public’s confidence and aspire to be exemplars of ethical conduct to reignite the flickering flame of ethical standards.


The Governor assured legal practitioners in the state of his administration's continued commitment to the welfare of the legal profession and the advancement of justice in the state.


The  event was attended by prominent indigents of the state as well as legal icons, including former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; the Osemawe, Oba Dr. Victor  Kiladejo,  Prof. Laolu Yusuf Ali, SAN; Aare Muyiwa Akinboro; Hon. Justice Awogbehingbe of the Court of Appeal; the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Kuteyi; as among others.
