4th convocation ceremony; Akeredolu hails UNIMED, restates commitment towards funding education.
The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN CON, said the University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo, being the first specialized medical and health sciences university in Nigeria has lived up to its agenda of providing education and exceptional research quality in all health-related sciences.
The Governor made the assertion while addressing the 4th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo, Ondo State.
The Governor, also a Visitor to the university, said the light of UNIMED as a pioneer specialized medical sciences university in Nigeria, has radiated from the Sunshine State across the nation, with no less than seven similar specialized universities springing up after it.
Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olufemi Agagu FNIVS, Akeredolu noted that the tremendous progress that the institution has made over the last eight years, is quite impressive and inspiring.
"It stride goes beyond health workforce production and research to also include improving lives at the community level through population-level health and development initiatives"
The Governor emphasized that his administration has earmarked the sum of one billion naira for the construction of senate building at UNIMED towards ensuring that the institution, like other three Ondo State owned tertiary institutions, has a befitting administrative facility.
He congratulated the graduands and urged them to always be good ambassadors of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Adesegun Fatusi said the young men and women who were being awarded degrees in various fields have been found worthy in character and learning to merit the university's awards.
The Convocation Lecturer, the Founders/CEO, SecuredID Limited, Mrs. Kofo Akinkugbe, while delivering her lecture on "Youth Entrepreneurship and Reshaping Nigeria's Future" urged the graduands to discover their talents, focus more on entrepreneur and always strive to be the best in their endeavours.
327 graduants from different specialized medical fields were award first degrees, post graduate degrees and diploma certificates at the 4th convocation ceremony of the institution.
Ten of the graduated bagged First Class Honour, 128 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 125 with Second Class Lower Division and 30 with Third Class.
Four graduates also bagged Post-graduate Diploma in Public Health, while 34 others graduated with unclassified degrees in Physiotherapy.
The number of graduants of the 2021/2022 academic session, put at 327, including the first set of Medical Laboratory Scientists, was a significant increase over the 176 graduands of the 2020/2021 set.
