AGAGU HOSTS WINNERS OF THE 2023 PAN AFRICAN YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME, TASKS OTHER STUDENTS ON EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olufemi Agagu FNIVS, has hosted in his office in Akure, the three Ondo State students who won the 2023 America Leadership Training Programme.


Three students, Damilola Janet Akadiri, Oluwakemisola Favour Awoyode, and Faith Mercy Omowumi, all from St. Louis Girls Grammar School, Akure, Ondo State, were selected for the 2023 Pan Africa Youth Leadership Program (PAYLP) scheduled to hold in the United States of America this year.


They were selected among the nine students recommended to the US Embassy by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology as a result of their outstanding  performances at the 2022 Joint SS2 promotion Examination.


The nine nominated students were subsequently  screened by the US Embassy where the best three among them were selected for the programme.


Presenting the students to the Commissioner, the Principal of Saint Louis Girls Grammar School, Akure, Mrs. Omobolanle Ayintete, thanked the state government, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, and the American Embassy for their fairness in the selection process.


She noted that the emergence of the students and their subsequent participation in the Leadership Training Programme in the United States of America, would surely boost the profile of the school and the morale of the students.


The Commissioner, Mr. Olufemi Agagu, who congratulated the students, their parents and the management of Saint Louis Girls Grammar School, Akure, for the rare privilege, explained that the students emerged through a fair selection and competitive process.


According to the Commissioner, at the onset of the programme, he directed the Department of Examination Management of ministry to send the names of the best nine students in the 2022 Joint SS2 Promotion Examination to the American Embassy, out of which the best three were selected.


While assuring that the ministry would provide the necessary supports and encouragement to ensure the success of the programme, the Commissioner challenged other secondary students in the state to always put in their best to make the state and their parents proud of them.


He promised that the three successful students would be presented to Mr. Governor for recognition at a later date.


This high-profile leadership training program is fully funded by the American Government for high school students and adult mentors from selected African countries to exchange experiences with their American peers. 


The training is expected to run for a period of three weeks after which the students will return to the country and share their experiences and action plans with their home communities.
