AKEREDOLU'S ADMINISTRATION PASSIONATE ABOUT CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS; AS FOUNDATION DONATES EQUIPMENT TO SPECIAL SCHOOL.

 




The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Ondo State, Olufemi Agagu FNIVS, says the Ondo State Government is passionate about the welfare of the physically and mentally impaired children in the state

The Commissioner stated this while recieving in his office in Akure, the National executives of the Disability Empowerment Foundation, DEF, a non-profit organization dedicated to the uplifting of the disabled in the society.

The foundation was at the ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Akure to donate some skills development equipment to the Ondo State School for the Physically and Mentally Impaired, Oke-Igbo.

The Commissioner expressed the appreciation of the Ondo State Government to the Foundation for the gesture, saying that the Arakunrin Akeredolu's administration has shown a lot inspirations and commitments to the welfare of people with special needs in the state.

Mr. Agagu  who also commended the humanitarian gesture of the foundation, especially for considering Ondo State for the project, called on other public-spirited individuals and Foundations to emulate the initiative of the DEF.

While noting that all the the five schools for children with special needs in the state have skills acquisition cetres where the children could learn various skills and trades, the Commissioner added that government has been consistent in releasing fund monthly for the wellbeing of the children.

He assured the donor, Disability Empowerment Foundation (DEF), that the equipment would be utilized for the empowerment of the children towards making them useful to themselves and the society.

The President of the foundation, Dr. Olutayo Sodipo highlited its mission to include promoting of status of children with disabilities and integrating them into the society, enhancing the ability of children to make them autonomy, and empowering them to become self-reliance.

He said the foundation has been partnering governments at different levels to make life meaningful for children with disabilities, and building in them the future of hope and ability.

Dr. Shodipo, assured the Commissioner that  the Foundation would continue to partner the Ondo State Government in it's efforts at rehabilitating children with special needs in the state to make them independent and self-reliant.

He therefore informed the Commissioner that a special programme was being planned for Ondo State by the foundation next year, and requested the collaboration of the state government in making it a reality.

Earlier, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the foundation and facilitator of the project, Prof. Victor Olumekun, had intimated the Commissioner that the School for the Physically and Mentally Impaired, Oke-Igbo, was was chosen for the project after an assessment visit to the institution by the foundation early in the year.

Items donated to the ministry for the use of the school, include sewing machines, laptops and printers as well as barbing kits.
