COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION, AKINDOLIRE LAUDS WAEC, RE-EMPHASISES GOVERNMENT'S ZERO TOLERANCE FOR EXAMINATION MALPRACTICES
Ondo State ommissioner for Education, Science and Technology. Mr. Laolu Akindolire has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the 2024 West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examinations, WASSCE, across the state.
The Commissioner who monitored the conduct of the examination in Akure with the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Folasade Adegoke and other officials of the ministry, said the conduct was peaceful and without hitch.
He lauded the examination body, the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, for putting in place adequate logistics and personnel for the examination, stressing that in all schools visited, there was no issue whatsoever.
The Commissioner, however used the occasion to re-emphasise the state government's zero tolerance to examination malpractice, saying the standard of education in the state would never be compromised.
He warned that government would not hesitate to sanction erring school head or supervisor who aids or abiets examination malpractices during internal or external examinations in the state.
Mr, Akindolire reminded stakeholders in the education sector that the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has some sets of rules on examination malpractices and would not hesitate to apply them on erring officials either in private or public schools.
The Commissioner enjoined all Zonal Education Officers, ZEOs, and Area Education Officers, AEOs, to be vigilant in their respective areas, stressing that they would also have questions to answer whenever examination malpractices take place within their areas of supervision.
He emphasized that the state government was making considerable efforts at repositioning education and ensuring standard in the sector, warning that it would be disheartening to note that some schools or individuals are still aiding malpractices during examinations in the state.
Mr. Akindolire said Ondo State has been noted for quality and high educational standard across the country, and would not take it lightly with anyone or organization attempting to compromise the standard.
The Commissioner noted that the state government as part of efforts to to ameliorate the burden on parents and ensure that all qualified school children participate in the examination, has taken the responsibility of paying the WAEC registration fees for the 26,088 students writing the examination in all public secondary schools across the state.
