Ondo Govt creates Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department in the ministry of education to expose students to necessary skills*
The Ondo State Government has created a new session, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, to expose learners to necessary skills, knowledge and practical experience that can make them self-reliant after leaving school.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire at a meeting with the Permanent Secretary and Directors in the the ministry, explained that the intent of the state government was to stimulate the potentials and skills of students in the state public secondary schools by building in them entrepreneurial mindsets that can make them self-reliant after Secondary School education.
He explained further that the new department would work towards stimulating the potentials and skills of the students and reawakening the entrepreneurial potentials in them to reduce unemployment rate by ensuring that every one of them is equipped with at least one skill while leaving secondary school.
The Commissioner, who described Entrepreneurship and Innovation as a global concept embraced by the developed and emerging nations to fast-track development of their economy across all sectors, said the state government was working towards revitalizing the educational system in the state to encourage innovations that could lead to sustainable growth.
Mr. Olaolu Akindolire said that the creation of the new department in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for effective coordination of Entrepreneurship and Innovative activities in the state, was in compliance with the Education for Renewed Hope Roadmap for the Nigerian Education Sector (2024 - 2027)
He therefore called for synergy among other departments in nurturing the new department, which he described as the baby of ministry, in its quests to revolutionalize the education sector in the state by creating a new generation of Entrepreneurs and Innovators.
The new Department will among others organize local, zonal and state stakeholders sensitization workshop on Entrepreneurship education, establish Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centres, set up Special Fund for Entrepreneurship development, manage Entrepreneurship Clubs and Societies in basic and senior schools, as well as Produce Teacher's Guide for Entrepreneurship Education.
Its basic targets include, developing entrepreneurial spirit and innovation, enhancing career opportunities and employability, fostering creativity, adaptivity and resilience, encouraging self-employment and job creation as well as supporting economic growth and development.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Folasade Adegoke said the birth of the department marks a new dawn in the education sector of Ondo state, and pledged to coordinate other sessions of the ministry to work for the success of the new department.
