Again, Ondo State Government warns against extortion of students during the ongoing 2024/2025 admission process*

The Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire said Ondo State Government still operates tuition free education programme in its public primary and secondary schools across the state.

The Commissioner while monitoring the on-going admission process into public schools in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo and Ondo West Local Government Areas, warned against extortion of students under whatever guise during the admission process.

He declared that the state government still operates free education programme in public schools across the state and warned against attempts by any school authority to undermine the policy.

The Commissioner said the state government seriously frowns at any attempt by school authority to put additional burden on parents during the 2024/2025 admission process, declaring that any school that charges more than the approved levies would face the music.

"We are aware of the prevailing economic situation in the country, therefore, no school should put additional financial burden on parents through the sales school uniform, recommended textbooks or asked the parents to patronize particular vendor"

Mr. Akindolire directed school principals to make available the list of recommended textbooks, samples of the school uniform and lockers to parents  and allow them to get the materials from any place of their choice

The Commissioner also directed that the list of collectibles, as approved by the state government, be placed on notice boards at conspicuous places within the school premises where parents can access them without efforts.

He charged school principals across the state to prioritize the teaching of vocational subjects in their schools to equip their students with at list a vocational skill that can make them self-sustaining while leaving the school.

Mr. Akindolire however commended the principals of Gboluji Grammar School, Ile-Oluji, and Saint Joseph's College, Ondo, for the organization and uniqueness of their schools' premises and urged other schools across the state to emulate them.

He was particularly pleased with the various interventions of the Old Students Associations of both schools and charged similar associations of other schools to come to the aid of their alma maters
