Ondo Attorney General tasks Law Commission on new legislations to reflect modern legal needs



‎One of the key commitments of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in Ondo State is to Improve administration of Justice by ensuring that the law is fair, modern, simple and as cost-effective as possible.

‎This informed the decision of the Governor to rebound the State Law Commission after more than a decade of neglect to make it more effective and responsive to modern legal needs.

‎The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ondo State, Dr Olukayode Ajulo SAN, OON, stated this in Akure while receiving the Chairman of the State Law  Commission, Mr Femi Okunjemiruwa and other board members in his office.

‎The Attorney General who noted that the society is dynamic, urged the State Law Commissions to look into existing laws, recommend reforms for modernization, and propose new legislations to align with constitutional values and societal changes,

‎While noting that the board comprises of reputable members, Dr Ajulo urged the Commission to initiate new legislations,  focus on removing anomalies, codifying laws, and improving justice administration for clarity, fairness, and efficiency in the state.

‎The State Commissioner for Justice also tasked the commission on continuous review of state laws to identify outdated, obsolete, or conflicting enactments and as well propose new laws to address societal, economic, and technological changes.

‎He said the intent of the state Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to resurrect the State Law Commission was to simplify and modernize the legal framework and ensure that the laws reflect contemporary societal values. 

‎The Chairman of the Ondo State Law Commission, Mr Femi Okunjemiruwa thanked Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for resurrecting the Commission, taking cognances of its contributions to the growth and dynamics of laws in the state.

‎Mr. Okunjemiruwa, who said the visit was to enable the management of the commission familiarize themselves with heads of their supervising ministry, added that Dr Olukayode Ajulo has given face lift to law administration in the state through his charisma and special flair for success.

‎He however listed some of the problems confronting the commission to include poor accommodation, shortage of personnel, lack of vehicles and working tools among others.
